I’m Carly
I grew up in Michigan, but have lived in Morocco, New York, California and Colombia as an adult. I joined the Peace Corps after college, and then spent some time living in New York, working at a non-profit in the Bronx. In 2017, I decided to go to graduate school to become a therapist.
After graduate school, I spent several years working with babies, young children and families at a non-profit, while seeing some private practice clients with anxiety and OCD. In my private practice, I mostly see people struggling with anxiety and OCD, but also work with mothers and parents and do Parent Child Interaction Therapy.
I experienced anxiety and OCD when I was in grad school, so I can relate! I am also a mother navigating parenting and the struggles that come with it. I am in a cross cultural relationship and am bilingual in Spanish.
Outside of being a therapist, I enjoy reading, especially memoirs and books written in the first person, listening to music, hiking and being in green spaces, chatting with friends, watching movies, and going on adventures with my husband and son.
Credentials
I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. I earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California.
I am trained in Inference Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), perinatal mental health, and in therapy for Highly Sensitive People. I am also currently gaining experience in psychodynamic therapy, and hope to enroll in a psychodynamic psychotherapy training program.
I use an integrative approach, meaning that I draw from all these forms of therapy in my work. Everyone is different! You might respond to one type of therapy, while another person may respond to another. The biggest predictor of success in therapy is the strength of your relationship with your therapist, so it’s important that you feel like I get you.
